Authorities tell us it’s not a matter of ‘IF’, but ‘WHEN’ San Diego will experience another large-scale disaster. Possible scenarios include:

Earthquakes, Canyon Fires, Water Shortages/Drought, Power Failures, and Terrorist Attacks.

In a large-scale disaster, public safety agencies may be overwhelmed with calls for assistance. As we have observed in our local wildfires in 2003, and the more recent gulf hurricanes, people may be forced to rely on themselves for a period of time, a minimum of 72 hours. If we work together as a community, we can coordinate and plan in advance for the unexpected. If we educate ourselves and make preparations, we can have tools and plans in place so that we will know how to react in an emergency. It is clear that we may not be able to depend on government agencies to respond immediately, so we need to have a plan which will enable us to be independent of outside help. It truly comes down to individual preparedness and responsibility.
